There’s a way to eat the foods you enjoy so much, and still eat healthy. I call it cutting your risks. There are two main causes of death related to the foods we eat – heart disease and cancer. We here have joined together to come up with some ways that will help you cut these risks, and still enjoy the foods you love so much.
Plan you meals
This is not complicated. All you need to do is plan your meals in such a way that will avoid too much fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium. You must also try to get sufficient starch and fiber.
Cutting the risks of lowering the fat and saturated fat will lower your risk of heart disease. Likewise, increasing fiber in your food will reduce the risk of cancer.
Consider the foods you eat, how they’re going to be prepared, and the number of food choices you have. Always think about this when you do your grocery shopping, or when you eat out in a restaurant. If you do this, you can still have the good foods you like, even the foods that you know as junk foods.
How to plan your meals and your food choices
Enjoying foods that are low in fat and high in fiber DOES NOT mean you’ll have to give up your favorite foods. I’m going to show you a way you can have your cake and eat it too. In case you’re not familiar with this old expression, it simply means you can have it both ways.
You can eat healthy and at the same time, enjoy junk foods.
Do you like steak? Most people do, including yours truly. Steak has a bad reputation of being high in fat, low in fiber and hard to digest. But there are two things about steak that are good. It’s high in protein, and the obvious – it tastes so good. After all, what’s the point of eating food that doesn’t taste good?
When you prepare a steak, don’t just season it and throw it on a hot grill for eight minutes. There’s another way to prepare steak which makes it more enjoyable, and of course, much healthier. When you buy steak, have the butcher trim off the excess fat. If he can’t, you can do this when you get home. If you’re concerned about paying for excess fat, don’t be. this makes the steak taste better. When you prepare it, broil it, and drain off the drippings. I promise, you’ll love steak prepared this way. It’s more tender, it tastes better and it’s much healthier for you.
Another way to enjoy steak, and cut your risk is to choose a low fat cut. Round steak is the most versatile steak you can prepare. There are over a hundred delicious ways to prepare round steak. And the best part is, it’s more healthy for you because it’s the leanest cut of beef you can buy. Round steak is very delicious and the best kept secret among steak lovers. Try it and you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Do you enjoy pizza? Most people do, but this is bad for you, because it’s one of the ultimate junk foods. Is this true? Not necessarily.
There’s a way to enjoy a pizza that’s low in fat, and rich in fiber. Many pizza parlors have this choice on their menu. You can also prepare this pizza yourself, which is very easy to do.
For the dough, use a combination of all purpose and whole wheat flour. You can also use whole-grain English muffins or pita bread when preparing the dough. This will give you the fiber you need.
For the topping, use low-fat mozzarella cheese, fresh vegetables and pizza sauce, which is healthy because it is tomato based. Another suggestion is to add some pineapple to your pizza topping. This is delicious. These things will result in a pizza that’s low in saturated fat.
A pizza, in and of itself, it not that unhealthy. But after you add pepperoni, sausage, hamburger and cheese that contains a lot of fat, this could be a little risky.
What about cookies? I love cookies and make them all the time. They’re very easy to make, and they taste much better than store cookies. But there are healthier recipes for cookies. To begin, use whole wheat flour instead of all purpose flour. This will give you the fiber you need. Second, use margarine or vegetable oil instead of butter, to reduce the fat.
Like pizza, cookies are not unhealthy. It’s the way some of them are prepared that makes them unhealthy.
These are just a few examples of how you can prepare the foods you love, in a healthier way. There are thousands of other examples. All you have to do is think about what you’re going to eat before planning your meals. Don’t just rule something out because you think it’s unhealthy. This is defeating your purpose. You want to eat the foods you enjoy. Remember, for every food that’s considered unhealthy, there’s always a healthier version of preparing the same food.
