You have to cut out many of the carbs that spike the insulin levels. This book explains this very well. I did this diet for awhile, then modified it for the long haul by adding a few more carbs to my diet. I have realized though that once I got rid of some of those fast carb foods, my hunger significantly decreased, and food cravings went away. I used to crave potato chips, cookies, cake and other snacks. I don’t even think about them any more, now that I’ve adjusted my eating habits. What I learned about diet and weight loss from The 4 Hour Body was quite amazing.
You basically eat a lot of vegetables, eggs, beans, and lean meats. You have to cut out foods like cheese, popcorn, and oatmeal. However, once a week, you can literally eat any kind of food you want, for a whole day, which is very encouraging, and also, a very good motivational factor.
Fruit and oatmeal are healthy, but if you read the book, the author explains why they create cravings to eat other foods. I definitely found this to be true in my situation. This book helped kick start my metabolism.
